Nayana Williams, Motherhood changes your life completely.

Q: What has been the hardest period of motherhood for you and how did you deal with it?

Motherhood changes your life completely. It is the most rewarding while at the same time, most difficult job you will ever do, because you are responsible for the upbringing and care of other human beings. What those children eventually become, is a reflection of the lessons you have taught.

Becoming a new mother to a disabled child was a difficult period for me as I was not only grappling with the responsibility of motherhood, I was also trying to figure out and come to terms with understanding what it meant to have a child with special needs. It has turned out to be my greatest blessing, but at that moment the uncertainty created some amount of difficulty.

Q: What is your biggest regret as a mother if any?

As a mother and an entrepreneur, it can be very difficult to effectively manage time so that nothing gets left behind. I think that if I have one regret as a mother, it is creating a balance from earlier on, so that I did not miss so much of my children’s childhood. Particularly, I wish I was more present when my son was younger. He needed that constant emotional and physical support, but I was always working. He said he is ok, but I can’t help but look at the time that flew by.

Q: How do you manage a work/life balance as a mom with kids?

Work/Life balance is easier said than done. You want to be present in the lives of your children all the time, but the demands of a business can make that impossible. Having a support system in place has been a huge blessing to me and my family. From my team members who have chipped in, to those relatives who were willing participants to pick up where I left off, I would not be able to effectively function without them.

Q: What happy memory of your kids will you cherish forever?

I can recall my daughter being 9 years old and my son being one year old. My son would crawl all over and my daughter would watch him with a smile and the occasional giggles and just watching them both brought me so much joy.
