December 1st is observed as World AIDS Day.
As Buzzz Magazine builds awareness for the condition, did you know the Christmas to New Year season is the time most babies are conceived? This is so, according to research and birth rates. Understandably, this fact parallels the increase in the risk of being infected with STDs.
On the path to HIV prevention, there is a very important key: protection; but there are many myths and beliefs surrounding the decision to avoid any form, shape, or size of protection.
- One cannot get pregnant if you have sex in water.
- A person cannot get pregnant if she stands up having
sexual intercourse.
- If one has sexual intercourse with a virgin, it is unlikely
that she will get pregnant; and if the male has a disease, it
will be cured.
- The novelty of sheer pleasure. Some feel skin to skin is
simply more pleasurable.
- Some claim there is no size to fit their male prize.
- Some are of the view that no protection is needed since
they have only one sexual partner.
- For some it has to do with their religion. They believe
condoms, whether male or female, are man- made and
skillfully thwarts the process of procreation.
- There are some persons who want to have a baby or
babies, so protection is not welcome.
- Then we have those persons who are just easy going,
carefree and mind I say, careless and do not give a
‘biscuit’ whatever happens. Their aim is to satisfy sexual
desires- whenever, wherever and however- in the heat of
the moment.
- Still there are some who say they are allergic to condoms
and insist on skin to skin.
The time to look for a fire escape is before the building is ablaze. Be proactive and stay informed. Youths especially, seek out a mature individual to confide in and DO YOUR RESEARCH!
- You may be faithful, but can you really speak on
behalf of the next person?
- Are you willing to sacrifice your life for mere
‘pleasure’?
- Females are equally responsible. If he is not
equipped, female condoms are available.
- Abstinence is the only foolproof means of
protection. Can you wait?
