The temperature is rising, so now is the perfect time to get up off the couch and begin crossing off the items on your 2018 bucket list. Why not take full advantage of the fresh air and sweet island sunshine while you can. But don’t forget to pack on the sunscreen!
Buzzz Magazine has put together the Ultimate Summer Outdoor Activity List for everyone to fully enjoy.
Let’s face it, this heat can be really draining at times and we all need to cool down, so whether it is a day at the beach or fresh water river, the possibilities are endless.
Tubing, Kayaking Rafting
Water activities like these are the ideal summer pastime for large groups of friends and families. There are numerous adventure parks such as Chukka Cove, River Rapids
Jamaica and Mystic Mountain that offer these activities and so much more at special group rates and discounts for the summer.
Surfing
Now I know what you may be thinking. Surfing? In Jamaica? Well, the answer is… Yes. Jamnesia Surf Camp located in Bull Bay, provides surfing lessons for adults and children at affordable rates and are taught by some of the best Jamaican and international Surfers. All you have to do is show up with an open mind ready to hang ten and ride the waves.
Fishing
Whether it’s Deep Sea Fishing on a yacht by the marina in Port Antonio or out on a canoe with a local fisherman in Old Harbour; fishing can be an excellent summertime family venture. It is more of a low pace water hobby that can be a great way to bond with loved ones.
If you’re not the water adventure type of person, then here are a few alternative outdoor activities to choose from: Hiking
Hiking is a great form of exercise and the perfect option for persons who love being active. Jamaica is full of hiking trails that would be perfect for a day of adventure, but always make sure to hike in groups and in designated hiking areas.
Road Trip
Grab your crew and head out on the open road. Taking a road trip with friends is a must do for every summertime bucket list. You can stop at some of the many hot spots on the way, eat shrimp at middle quarters, have a cold drink at one of the many roadside bars or even discover an abandoned beach somewhere and light a bonfire. Remember, it’s not about the destination, what matters most is the journey. Make it a memorable one! Plan a Cookout or Barbeque
For the persons who love playing host, why not get together and have a cookout or barbeque? Nothing brings people together like some good food and good vibes and the weather will be just right.
Festivals (Music &Food)
There is just something about summertime and good music that goes hand in hand. You would be surprised at how many local live music shows that happen during the summertime. If you are a foodie looking to excite and tantalize your taste buds, head to the many food festivals that take place throughout the summer months, such as the Ocho Rios Seafood Festival in August, Portland Jerk Festival or the Montego Bay Jerk Festival both in July. Picnics
If you’re more of a low key type of person who hates crowds and is looking for something that won’t break the bank, then a picnic would be right up your alley. Picnics are simple, inexpensive ways to enjoy the summertime. Pack your own snacks and drinks and spread out on the plush green grass at Hope Gardens or Devon House. Enjoy the scenery, lay out and take in the fresh air, soak up the sunshine while sipping on your favourite drink. Play board games, read your favourite novel, take photos or just be one with nature for a day.
With just a few more weeks left in summer, why not make it count? There are a plethora of activities to choose from and countless opportunities to create some lifelong memories so get started today!
