At first I wondered where the author was leading me as while the story was interesting I was not riveted by it. Well all I needed was patience because in short order it unfolded before me like a flower. ‘Web’ is a tale that captures and tangles the human imagination and spotlights man’s struggle between making the most of his present condition versus his desire for a so called better life. Addeah Palmer’s tale of tough times and even tough communities; greed, superstition and enduring friendship is one that many will relate to because life in Jamaica is never easy, not even for persons of some financial means. Therefore ‘Web’ story line is believable as it chronicles residents living on Capture Land who try to make the best of their situation while perched precariously on property from which they can be evicted.
