Reggae Mixtape Vol. 2

Reggae Mixtape Vol. 2

Reggae Mixtape Vol. 2 picks up where volume one left off and spins as a true reflection of what the genre represents; while more consistently intriguing is the way the album parses modern Reggae music that defies immediate classification.

With vocal gymnastics from Alaine, Jah Cure and George Nooks, coupled with lyrical bench presses from Richie Spice, Sizzla and newcomer Kayla Bliss, the album offers something tantalising from beginning to end. There’s a certain charm that comes with compilations of this nature; on one hand most of your favourite Reggae crooners can be found under the same umbrella and on the other hand you can feel the distinction each artiste carries and just why they walk in a lane of their own. The album brings across the idea that it’s less about bringing a specific sound to the release and more about pulling from a diverse array of sounds and influences, both past and present, to create something truly distinctive.

It falls in line with the rest of DJ Wayne’s catalog as it is knitted tightly with current go-to singles but also spins as his most direct record. The mixtape series has morphed into a heavy powerhouse – one which has the opportunity to win over new listeners and wow existing music enthusiasts.
