For 24 year old Joseann Plummer, music has always found a way to integrate itself into her life. It is her firm belief that “music chased me down”. From her early recollections of her youth, she has always found herself surrounded by music and musicians. This constant immersion into music and the arts created a comfortable space for the young talent to connect with her gifts and make the conscious decision to recognize music as her passion and the pathway along which to build a career.
This realization would eventually create a chain reaction of events which have taken her thus far on her musical journey. It allowed an unlikely connection to be made at a wedding where fate destined for her to engage in conversations about music that led to her becoming part of Burn Out Records. From there, drawing inspiration from her favourite instrument, the guitar (which she plans to learn to play), the recording artiste NYLON was born.
The Trelawny native who currently resides in Montego Bay is a singersongwriter that delivers a musical RnB/ Reggae fusion that is guaranteed to have you feeling confident, inspired and full of good vibes. Her decision to combine musical genres comes from her own affinity for music around the world. “I didn’t want to be just a reggae artiste or dancehall artiste. I wanted to combine our culture with the world’s music” shared Nylon.
With that in mind, Nylon released her debut single “Take it Slow” in 2019; a love song about two individuals with feelings for each other making the decision to enjoy their courtship and the opportunity to truly get to know each other. The song, which is inspired by her own personalrelationship experience, is a reflection of her ability to draw on the inspiration around her in order to create meaningful and relatable records; whether the experiences are her own, from the people around her or just from the environment she exists in, she is able to pull from everywhere to create music.
In addition to her 2019 single, she has also released other records including “Rise Up featuring Ashani, Dying, Strength of Soldier, Boy Bye” . With new music on the way, Nylon is also eagerly anticipating the completion and release of her first EP and hopes to collaborate with more artistes locally and internationally.
Describing herself as a jovial, positive and confident woman, Nylon lives by the mantra that says “It’s not what life makes of you; it’s what you make of life”. With the love and support of her family, and the team around her, Nylon has her eyes set on building her image and presence, touring and performing, releasing her first EP and being an inspiration through her music. With her passion for the craft and her belief that this is her destiny, Nylon is sure to be a force of positive energy and entertainment in music.
