If you are familiar with K. Sean’s character Terri Miller from his thriller Merchants of Death, you have probably been wondering what became of her. Well, all your burning questions and some you never even fathom, have been answered in the sequel novel Siblings of Death where Harris continues to spin a delectable web of drama, intrigue, suspense and, of course, lots and lots of sex.
Siblings of Death picks up the tale twenty years later when Miller is married and has self-actualised, holding down both the savage demon that is crime in Jamaica, as well as the ‘Top Cop’ position. Her son Marc-Anthony is her right hand who is fast making a name for himself as a crime fighter and she could not be more pleased. Pity Miller cannot say the same for Marc-Anthony’s half-brother Diego who is as dark and devious a force as Marc-Anthony is good and wholesome.
Now grown, the two will face off as Diego is now on the wrong side of the law, master minding a sophisticated criminal underworld that traffic not only in women, but one of the most macabre blood sports known to man.
In the midst of the impending showdown, secrets are revealed, lives are wrecked, relationships grind to a screeching halt, codes of honour are broken and hidden agenda exposed, making for one epic literary joy ride. Did I mention that it is also saturated with some seriously salacious sex scenes?
The novel is both poignant as well as personal, as it strips bare the phenomena of human trafficking, a reality few wish to speak about and fewer like to contemplate, though it unfortunately is very real, raw and happening not only in ‘other countries’ but right here in our back yard.
Harris’ handling of the issue is bold without making readers uncomfortable; vivid, yet not too intense.
Harris ignites the pages of the novel to such an extent that you will probably miss church, a party or two, and maybe even work because once you start, I guarantee you will not stop reading until you are through; as this page turner is both mesmerising and, at points, heart-breaking. Siblings of Death is an ideal gift for any die-hard K. Sean Harris fan.
