An anthology of poems is the means used by how first time author Michael A.D. Edwards to come out of the gates: his publication ‘Turbo Donkeycart’ is a collection of his musings and thoughts that epitomise an indelible writing style.
A journalist of note – he is known for critiquing the works of others – it ‘was interesting to read what he himself penned. His poetry speaks to the man himself and the ideas that occupy his mind when the roar is gone, the night is Turbo Donkeycart’ is not for the uninitiated as it is an intellectual playpen of words, nuances and styling that a non-thinker may not readily grasp. That being said it is a refreshing, enlightening literary journey that makes one ponder issues related to politics, the age-old man-woman story, love, humanity and life’s various ironies.
The title poem itself speaks to “much ado about nothing” as the more we have championed change and technological advances, the more things have remained the same. For the majority of us in Jamaica especially, scarce resources make all these advancements a thing some may be able to comprehend but not touch or use – hence the apt title ‘Turbo Donkeycart’.
Poignant pieces include ‘What If ‘; ‘Never Any Better’; ‘If Oil’; ‘Mother Father Tongue’; and ‘Stardust Sower’…the collection is definitely worth reading!
