International Reggae Day Celebrating 21st

IRD 2015 Ambassadors

Jamaica’s contribution to the global pop culture far outweighs its small size as the island has produced some of the world’s most influential music, philosophy, personalities and athletes of the last century.  Arguably one of three giants in global pop culture along with the US and UK, Jamaica is one of the most popular nation brands on the planet with a lifestyle culture and soundtrack that is borderless and continues to appeal to a diverse market from baby boomers to millennials.

As the culturally authentic home of Reggae music and Rastafari, Jamaica is uniquely positioned as a brand with competitive advantages and dynamic economic opportunities in today’s global market.  Reggae’s power to unite, inspire and uplift people around the world isunique and summed up in its one love message.  Reggae deserves the global recognition and appeal it enjoys and International Reggae Day was launched in 1994 as a strategic marketing initiative to celebrate its power annually on July One.

Designed as a 24-hour global media festival celebrating the best of Jamaica’s lifestyle creativity (music, visual arts, fashion, dance, cuisine, wellness etc) and its impact on global culture, International Reggae Day is hosted annually on JulyOne by Kingston – the city where ‘big things start’ including the Sounds of Jamaica (Ska | Rock Steady | Reggae | Dancehall | Dub | sound system movement).

In its 21st year, IRD is the first ever calendar event to be officially proclaimed and dedicated to celebrating REGGAE music and Jamaica’s creative industries.   The IRD strategic brand marketing initiative is a creative blueprint showcasing Reggae culture while uniting the globalReggae community.  A network of cities hosting lifestyle party events for IRD include Miami, New York, Honolulu, London, Bombay and Sandals Resorts in the Caribbean.
