The Lion King Musical is the most profitable box office item of all time amassing a mammoth US$6.2 billion dollars in ticket sales, which first premièred in 1997.
The musical more than doubles the sales of Avatar, the highest selling cinema movie that made US$2.8 billion dollars and even though the Phantom of the Opera has sold more than double the tickets of the Lion King Musical, the gross profit of the Lion King reigns supreme.
It is estimated that the musical has been seen by 75 million people and now the only record left in sight is that of being the longest running show. That record is held by the Phantom of the Opera which started in 1986 and is still in productions around the world.
