In Jamaica, you never know when you’ll wake up from a good night’s sleep and be left gutted as to whether you’re still in a dream. An empty driveway or garage can lead to unimaginable distress and heartache. According to police reports, approximately 2,000 vehicles are stolen each year and on average, only 360 are recovered in Jamaica.
How would you feel if the vehicle that you pampered and loved almost as if it were human, was not one of the lucky 360 cars to be recovered?
Well, the answer may lie in the Global Positioning System (GPS) now being offered by many security companies. GPS is a tracking system with the major aim of locating stolen vehicles. It is almost guaranteed that if those 2,000 stolen vehicles had tracking devices, they would have been recovered by the police, given the devices are not located and tampered with by the thieves.
Some of you may be wondering how this device works and BUZZZ Magazine has the answers. A GPS tracking device is installed on each vehicle to collect and transmit tracking data via a cellular or satellite network. The device then delivers the data to the application which you, or the security company, can access through the internet at any time. You receive real-time vehicle tracking updates including location, direction, speed, start/stop and more.
“Approximately 2,000 vehicles are stolen each year… only 360 are recovered”
Though location of a stolen vehicle may be the overarching reason behind obtaining a tracking system, it is not the only supporting factor of having one installed. Business owners who partake in activities requiring the transportation of goods would find such technology revolutionary, as they would be able to easily locate trucks, fleets and assets to reduce the possibility of theft and to prevent employees from going on a ‘frolic of their own’.
There is a simply theory behind the need to keep track of the vehicles you own. Why risk your vehicle being stolen and unrecoverable, when you could simply install a GPS tracker and have the relevant authorities recover your vehicle for you? The Jamaica Automobile Association states that users of such tracking mechanisms on their motor vehicles would also experience a five to fifteen percent reduction in their motor vehicle insurance premiums which I am sure no one would object to.
