There are many stars in any Mercedes Benz ensemble; but the new 2017 Mercedes Benz GLC Coupe will not be overshadowed. Poised to be integrated into the Mercedes Benz family, it will gain its own acclaim by merit and not be ascribed status. The four door coupe embodies characteristics of an SUV and a coupe but with a careful balance to maintain its own identity. It shares platform with the GLC SUV. “It has the same engine, same technology, same transmission, the only difference is the body panel and the layout of the car,” explained Sloane Jackson, General Manager at Silver Star Motors Limited.
The GLC Coupe is the latest model in the C Class range, the new midsize coupe. And with the C Class being the most successful model in the Jamaican marketplace for the past decade, the foundation for its success has already been set. Jackson reasoned, “The whole idea of the Coupe design is to give you the sporty dynamic functions of a coupe and the usefulness and practicality of an SUV.”
Its sporty aesthetic is dazzling to the eyes and is guaranteed to turn heads, standing out from the competition. But it’s beauty with intelligence. The GLC Coupe boasts extensive options of innovative driving assistance systems. Collision Prevention Assist Plus is standard. The system warns of an imminent rear-end collision and is able to brake independently. And if you’re not impressed yet, another option is the Driving Assistance Package Plus allowing the combination of multiple systems for a unique level of all round protection, able to detect and protect pedestrians crossing at a junction.
Available exclusively for the new GLC Coupe is Dynamic Body Control adjustable steel suspension which allows a seamless transition between comfortable, sporty and very sporty configurations. Choose between Comfort, Sport and Sport plus. Also standard is a sports suspension. The firmer suspension and damping will provide a sportier style of driving without sacrificing comfort.
Jackson emphasised that the GLC Coupe will be welcomed by loyal Mercedez Benz buyers because it will add variety, among other things. “ A lot of people have been in the C Class platform, used to the sedan and have grown with the car but they now want a choice …it’s giving the types of customers in this price range many options still at Mercedes Benz rather than looking at options from the competition,” he said.
