Meet Gaelle….

What do Madison, Gai-Gai, Victoria and Sasha F have in common with Punchinella, Boss Lady and Browning? They’re all top colours from the snazzy new lipstick line called, Gaelle Cosmetics.

Gaelle LipstickFresh on the scene since 2016, Gaelle Cosmetics is Jamaican-born and features 38 rich matte shades with other names like Venice, Rachel, J Rose and Charity. And with an emphasis on quality and presentation, each colour is formulated to provide long-lasting coverage that glides smoothly over the lips according to founder, Safyie Reid.

 

A few months ago, Buzzz Magazine had the privilege of using Gaelle Cosmetics as the signature lip colour on our cover story personalities and by the end of the shoot, our entire team, including our model, wanted to find out more about Gaelle Cosmetics. The lipsticks are creamy matte texture and glide on smoothly like they’re made with natural oils to keep lips hydrated. The colours are fantastic, ranging from a variety or nudes to the darkest plum. They’re gorgeous guaranteed to give your face a pop especially for the holidays.

Fast forward to a few months later, (following hurricane delays), we finally caught up with the Jamaican-born beauty entrepreneur, Safyie Reid, just before she boarded her flight back to The British Virgin Islands, where she lives and works as a Spa Director, to give us all the details on this amazing line.

Gaelle LipstickTell us about the inspiration behind Gaelle Cosmetics?

Gaelle Cosmetics is inspired by a few things actually. I’ve worked in the Spa business for pretty much all my career, so it’s something I’m very passionate about. I’ve also always had a strong entrepreneurial spirit and I knew that when I started my own business, it had to be something that would bring me back to Jamaica. Skincare was one of my options, but I felt that it would have taken a bit more time to educate our users as to the intricacies and importance of proper skin care.

Then I thought, as a woman, what’s the one thing I don’t leave home without and that’s my lipstick. Plus, most women own one and want more. Lip products are perennial favourites ….they can change your look quickly and with minimal effort. And with that, I emptied my bank account and as they say, the rest is history.

Did you experience any hiccups along the way while starting up?

Of course….lots of hiccups and I still do. As an entrepreneur, I don’t think you ever get rid of hiccups but it’s how you ride over them. It took me about a year of sleepless nights, trial and error plus endless modifications to finalise all the details before Gaelle finally launched in June 2016. I still have sleepless nights. But when you’ve invested so much into something…. and I’m not just talking about money, I’m talking about your passion and time…. when you’ve put so much of you into something, you do everything to ensure that you succeed.

I take lessons from this journey every day, but I approach them with an open and positive mind. So for me, as clichéd as it might sound, if you love what you’re doing, the hiccups will seem like waves that push you closer to your goal with every ebb and flow.

The names are unique for a lipstick line, can you tell us about that? Sure. First of all, the company is named after my daughter Gaelle because she’s my biggest inspiration and motivator. The line
features 38 colours, each named after a phenomenal woman who has inspired me or positively impacted my life throughout the years in some way.
