Here are 9 foods and the natural nutrients that we need to eat for amazing skin:
Fresh Fruits and Vegetables – Apples and citrus fruits are rich in pectin, especially, in the skin of the apple and pericarp of grapefruit or oranges. While the pectin is mostly useless to the rest of the body as most persons do not digest it very well, it helps with removing certain toxins from the body and regulating blood glucose levels which is related to acne. That is, when the body’s glucose levels are high, the body pumps out more insulin to bring the levels down. Insulin increase may also trigger acne. Other toxins such as mercury, lead, those ingested from the air, water and foods may cause skin discoloration.
Avocado – It is popularly used in making masks for natural beauty treatments but including it in our diets make it all the more effective in protecting and improving the quality of our skin. The avocado is another food rich in vitamin C. The vitamin C is required for collagen production hence the use of avocado directly on the skin; topical vitamin C helps prevent effects of prolonged exposure to the sun which has been named one of the main causes for skin cancer. But, eating it helps in the actual production of collagen within the body. It is also rich in carotenoids. Vitamin C and carotenoids make a good team, to help with the skins general make-up.
Tomatoes – You must be familiar with the word lycopene; the mineral antioxidant that is common among red, orange and yellow fruits and vegetables. It is also a carotenoid. Research is currently being carried out around the world to prove the benefits of lycopene in preventing cancers such as skin cancer. Tomatoes that are processed into paste and heated will have more useful lycopene. Lycopene along with vitamin C and Selenium found in tomatoes work from the inside out in guarding the body against free radicals.
Fish – Fish contain many nutrients including vitamins B and E, Selenium, protein, and omega-3 fatty acids. These nutrients can be derived especially, from salmon, sardines, mackerel and fish with dark skin. The oils that fish produce help to keep the skin moisturized. Instead of throwing out the fish eggs seen in canned sardines or mackerel, eat them. The vitamins B and E along with protein increase circulation, and combine with other body nutrients to fight off cancer-causing toxins.
