Wow! It’s almost that time again; the most anticipated season for most of us, the big shebang and the chapter that puts our whole year into perspective. Whether this year has been good to you or you’re just about ready to leave this chapter behind, one thing is for sure- we all can’t help feeling the spirit of Christmas. Go ahead break out the carols! But in case you forgot or your Grinch mode has been activated for whatever reason, here are a few buzzing reasons why Christmas is STILL the most wonderful time of the year!
The Time to Indulge
It’s hard to prioritise what to look forward to during the season, but I think I can speak for the entire Caribbean when I say “if ever there were a time to eat, this would be it”! Just the thought is enough to get your taste buds going- the never-ending servings of ham, sorrel, Christmas cake and wine- mmmm!
It is totally acceptable to eat and be merry during the season; and why feel guilty? A couple weeks after, your plan to shed your ‘winter body’ will be tied up in your New Year’s resolution anyway!
Go easy on yourself and enjoy all the season comes with; live for today and don’t sweat the small stuff (even if it’s just for a few days). That’s right, indulge!
The Time to Be in Good Company
After being consumed by our daily lives and responsibilities for the entire year, we finally get the chance to bask in some quality time with our loved ones. This is the perfect opportunity to book travel tickets or plan a road trip; if it’s possible, make it happen. If not, do not allow the distance away from your loved ones to completely kill your joy- find the time to pick up your phone, video chat, skype date, have dinner over IMO and share photos. Find the time to meet up with friends, entertain your neighbors and visit a few relatives.
If you are accustomed to being the host, change your hat a bit. Attend the events you have been invited to and be more open to other entertaining options. This way, you get to kick back and relax without the added pressure.
Time to Decorate
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Certainly one of the most intriguing things about Christmas is the decoration- the lights, the Christmas trees, the trimmings. There’s no way you are going to want to miss out when you begin to witness the décor. If your finances are not where you would like them to be, be realistic about what you can afford. Be creative and “tun yuh han mek fashion”.
