Exciting, hot and definitely daring; the 2017 trends are in. These trends push the envelope, yet they are relevant to today’s lifestyle. Staying power is a certainty, so they will be around for a while.
Here’s the thing…
To be on trend, you have to know what you are doing or you’ll end up with a HOT MESS on your hands. The trick is to introduce in small doses.
The Colour of the year
Take the colour of the Year for example- Penta Paints’ Valley Pass, 2646-D. It’s nature inspired, easy and relaxing, a promise of prosperity. This hue can be successfully used as an accent wall in the living room, as the perfect backdrop to a focal point, or the main colour in the hallway or powder room. For that pop of colour in pillows and window treatment, it’s also a no brainer.
Go bold or go home
There is a fabulous rise of mixed textures all in the spirit of Bohemian Chic. It’s fun, free spirited and breaks all the rules. This trend gives us permission to just let go and live and is best used in bedding, pillows, seat cushions and storage ottomans. To make this mix of patterns work, you can pair the pieces with solids, picking up one or two of the colors in the prints that you are using.
Guess what’s back and HOT on the scene?
MARBLE!!!!!!
For a clean, edgy and ultra-contemporary aesthetic, it’s all about marble walls and floor tiles and marble counter and table-tops. Faux marble is even showing up in wallpaper. This is not Grand-ma’s marble for sure! It’s best used with dark stains, shiny chrome finishes in kitchens of course; bathrooms, a given; and for out of the box thinking, use on top of nightstands in the bedrooms. It’s a durable natural stone which can stand up to years of abuse and still wear well. It is a natural choice for Air BnB’s and short term rentals which are now on the rise.
The Pouf
The updated hassock, and better looking than an ottoman. You just cannot get away from this absolutely fabulous necessity. It provides extra seating, wonderful personality while introducing texture. The options for suitable rooms are endless… living rooms, home office, den, children’s rooms, to name just a few. It is possibly the most photographed item in décor settings today so for an instant update, it’s the POUF.
