Experiences and life events are designed to teach us lessons that help us to grow and evolve. The pandemic has been no different. Many persons have had to pivot and refocus their energies in new directions in order to stay afloat and navigate through the uncertainties and fragility that the pandemic has unmasked. In recognizing the importance of reflection, we asked a few persons how they have changed and what they will do differently when the pandemic ends.
FGB, 51
I have gained a greater appreciation and affinity for technology, especially those platforms used for communication and engagement. I also have a greater sense of appreciation for my home and staying in, as well as greater value for self-care. Because of this, I will plan with greater sensitivity for working smarter and more efficiently and to prioritizing a better work-life balance.
Lisa, 42
I have become more empathetic towards people’s circumstances and reflect on each day’s opportunities and challenges. I know I will continue working to be a better person, take time to listen, express my gratitude more and be compassionate and gracious to others in a more impactful way.
Taniesha, 31
I have learnt to adapt and adjust quickly to new circumstances no matter how difficult they may be. I have also developed a renewed mind-set that appreciates just how fragile life is. It requires you to treasure the moments, especially those with loved ones and to let them know in the moment that you love them. I will celebrate life in a more wholesome way instead of always waiting for the “right time”.
Nash, 26
I have become more introspective and found value in being scarce and enjoying my own company. I think I am more in love with myself and more self-aware. I have learned
to appreciate the beauty in challenges and to recognize that in challenges there are opportunities. I will continue to center my focus on this new spiritual alignment.
Anna, 26
I am deliberately more disciplined. I know that no one is coming to save me and so I have to organize my time, my work load and balance my social life. I have realized that I cannot be buried in work especially now that my home space has become my work space. I accept invitations to leave my house. Before the pandemic I was a loner and a real home-body. Now, I’ve learnt to let people in and to allow myself to spend my hard working money on things other than bills because life is so short. I try to really live now in the moment and express myself more and ask for what I want. I have realized the importance to develop avenues to diversify my income as a result of the pandemic. I used to be afraid of my own mental noise but now I reflect more and am more self-aligned.
For me, Damion, the pandemic taught me the importance of planning and security and financial, mental and emotional well-being. I definitely have a greater appreciation for life and living in the moment while also taking care of myself. I have learned that my physical and mental health are priceless and I need to nurture it. Moving forward, I will prioritize myself and ensure that I create a foundation of support for self and others that is unbreakable. I will live more boldly and always be grateful for the blessings of life.
