Every time I travel on a bus I place my head phones over my ears and listen to some of my favourite tunes. I do this to lock myself into my vision of my future. I hold on to the seat before me and imagine myself behind the wheel of my white custom made Range Rover. I am usually traveling to one of Jamaica’s prominent media houses to host my electrifying radio show. The next stop on my journey is a visit to my own company then I head to my dream house; a space I share with my sweetheart, and is built exactly the way I dreamed it would be.
There is something magical about dreaming. It’s an exhilarating feeling you get, when you see yourself exactly where you intend to be. You begin to believe that your goals can be achieved and that you are capable of accomplishing even the seemingly impossible. Your vision for your future becomes clearer and you are driven by the thought that you will get that dream job, own that house, drive that car, build that business, have that family and enjoy life’s simple pleasures. It’s as though fear doesn’t exist; you are soaring to unimaginable heights, and you are tempted to go on dreaming, to keep the magic alive. The truth is, dreaming though magical doesn’t have the power to make your vision a reality. At some point you have to take that vision and apply deliberate action. You have to takesteps to transform thought and will into something tangible.
How can you make your dream a reality? You can start by putting pen to paper. Write down every thought or idea. The moment your thoughts become tangible youare on your way to accomplishing your goals. The next step is to formulate a realistic plan to move your goals from paper to completion. Your plan should comprise of key elements; a realistic timeline, a clear objective and a strategy. It is important that you create a deadline or timeline for which to achieve your goals. This will allow you to stay focused and it decreases spacefor negligent behaviour. Make sure that your timeline makes sense and gives you sufficient room to achieve your goals. Some goals may need more time than others. Your strategy should have small tasks that take you one step closer to your goals. By breaking down your goals into tasks your overall objective will become less overwhelming. Take it one step at a time. You don’t have to do everything at once.
