Dr. Wayne Frederick is a remarkable individual who has lived an extraordinary life. He is well known for numerous accomplishments with extensive contributions both academically and professionally. In addition to being the current President of Howard University, he is also a practicing cancer surgeon and the distinguished Charles R. Drew Professor of Surgery at the Howard University College of Medicine. He is a highly awarded and widely recognized expert in his field.
However, beyond the accolades, is a caring and compassionate human being with a radiant spirit. Among his many titles, he takes great pride in being a devoted husband to wife Simone and a present and caring father to 17 year old son, Wayne II and 15 year old daughter, Kirie.
He possesses an innate desire to serve others and to give back to his community through empowering others to find their own purpose while enjoying the journey of life.
His journey in life recently became even more extraordinary and humbling as he was ecognized in his homeland of Trinidad and Tobago and awarded the nation’s highest honour, The Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. For him, this recognition placed deep perspective on his journey to that point.
Like so many others, challenges served as the catalyst that nurtured the burgeoning excellence that Dr. Frederick has become known for. He was born with sickle cell anemia and spent many of his early years hospitalized. His curiosity about his ailment ignited within him the passion to become a physician to find a cure for his disease. It was this desire and the confidence instilled within him by his grandmother that set in motion the story and legacy of Dr. Frederick’s journey, which he continues to build on, to this very day.
