There are very few certainties in life. With the infinite uncertainties that exist, we have a duty to adopt an unrelenting attitude of gratitude when privileged to experience an abundance of fortune. For many, the splendour of these blessings often manifests in our consciousness an aura of complacency derived from what now feels like a routine. We tend to normalize small acts of favour as social norms and often minimize the need to display gestures of gratitude to those who perform these favours. To a greater extent, our social interactions with family, friends and loved ones are defined and characterized to comprise an expected system of support that often lacks articulated expressions of gratitude. Expectations have become the norm, which creates a perceived “understanding” of appreciation.
