Male Grooming has become a major part of the overall health and wellness routine of men. The basic shaving of one’s face and frequent haircuts are insufficient in the proper physical care and grooming for which men now subscribe as more time and effort is focused on the bodily physique, skincare routines, style and apparel. Damion Anglin spoke with CEO of Totally Male Limited, Sandra Samuels to get her to take on the buzz of male grooming.
The practice of male grooming in its modern form speaks to the self-awareness and confidence of a man. Physical appearance for male public figures has become a crucial part of their brand and public image. Unlike most public figures and “creative artists,” the regular man is usually ridiculed if he places too much fuss in grooming practices; his sexuality is then questioned.
However, Sandra believes that grooming is not enough to question a man’s sexuality; other factors are required. According to her, “Grooming is about comfort and maintaining health and wellness.” She continues that, “Grooming is the end result, It’s about relaxation, having some ‘me time’ and de-stressing”. But what are some of these relaxation methods that double as grooming habits?
Facials:
It’s essential to take care of the face in an effort to unearth younger, fresher looking skin. Common issues like ingrown facial hair, whiteheads, and blackheads can be addressed by getting regular facials. While there is no set schedule on the required frequency, it is recommended once a month; based on affordability.
Manicures or Pedicures:
Cuticle care of the hands and feet is very important. Fingers and toes often do not receive much care from men and result in issues including damaged nail beds, corns, and calluses and athlete’s foot. Manicures and pedicures are recommended every 2-3 weeks, based on affordability.
Massages:
This is a great way to release tension from the body. Massages help with circulation and can also help with insomnia. A massage at least once a month can prove to be very beneficial, especially for an active male who places his body through constant rigorous physical pressure.
There are other more unusual grooming practices which men have adopted but there is nothing taboo about men who groom themselves. Of course, everything must be done in moderation and within reason. According to the Totally Male CEO, “Male grooming is when I look at you as a man, I should still see a man”. Women find it more attractive when a man is clean and takes care of his body. Women like men who look good, smell good.
