There are a few events that see the unity of Jamaicans, especially those that pull the masses in one gathering. Some of these events are: Athletic championships, Festival and independence, food and football.
Deiwght Peters has broken new frontiers by unifying the public at one of the greatest fashion events of all time: Style Week, especially Fashion Block, smack in the middle of Knutsford Boulevard, New Kingston.
This year’s Style Week May 18th -25th saw an onslaught of smashing Caribbean and International designs and a celebration of panache. The opening night was Fashion Glitz and Art showcase that was a lux affair leading to Wednesday’s Fashion Movie challenge and Thursday’s exclusive presentation of the Summer Spring fashion, held at Mercedes Showroom on South Camp Road. Mercedes was integral in this year’s staging of Style Week; not only was the venue decorated with their high end sexy vehicles, the runway was enticed with designs from T&T Fashions by Simone Gordon, Sophia Maxbrown and Elan by Heather Lain.
It was a glamorous affair at the Supermodel City Lockdown which showcased 8 collections at 4 venues in one thrilling night. But the pure spectacle that was a memory washed in white was the International Mecca of Style which was an all-white affair that saw global designs taking the runway by storm.
These designers: Donovan Depass from New York, Kevin Obrian from Paris, the colourful Mariposa in Flight collection from Neahlis, Pebbles King, edgy three dimensional designs from Kurt Campbell, Tonia Samuels, old school glam from Keshon Howthorne and Andre Shirley.
But, what had the entire city of Kingston talking was the grand affair in New Kingston, known for the longest runway in these parts. Patrons were treated to a satisfying show of not just fashion but entertainment from T.O.K, GWhizz and the hype from Vybz Master Jerry D.
The Saint models were even fiercer as the crowd cheered them on in designs from: Kadian Nicely, Gregory H.O.D Williams, Nina, Neahlis, Nish swimwear, Bala Shawn. Donovan Depass, Kevin Obrian, Shadea Narcisse, Pebbles King, Princess Alecia, Rochelle Lindsey and Jennifer Williams. Fashion has never looked this good!
