It’s hot in the Caribbean! With the forecast of continued soaring temperatures, we are all open to discovering new ways to keep our cool. While we welcome that cooling air conditioning, the high utility bill can be scary. Not to fear, there are still options to explore which can help us feel cooler and summer décor is one such hack. Yes! That’s right. A well planned home décor over the summer months can help to soothe the blazing heat outside. Here are our suggestions;
1.Pile on cool bed linen- It might be time to upgrade your bedding. Find soft, light, breathable cotton, bamboo or linen sheets to make your summer bed. Choose light colors; white is a sure win. These natural materials allow air to move freely and do not retain heat. Changing your sheets is one of the easiest way to beat the hot
summer nights
2.Indoor plants- these are great year-round but in the summer they have the added advantage of helping to keep the microclimate cooler. You can rest potted plants in gorgeous containers or even elevate the plants by hanging vertically. They are environmentally friendly and cost effective. Some easy plants to bring inside are: Bamboo plant, Aloe vera, Peace lily, Ferns and Areca palms.
3.Change your paint palette- It’s as simple as this and it is powerful. Similar to wearing cooler colors in the warmer temperatures, so will cooler colors on our walls pare down the heat. Summer is a great time to repaint. Use lighter colors such as cool blues or even the ‘go-to’ standard of white to bring freshness and calm to your space even during the sweltering heat.
4.Bring a water feature indoor- an indoor water feature not only looks and sounds great but it helps to cool the microclimate. You can choose an indoor fountain or even a small pond, depending on your space.
