Summer is a time to relax and lighten up, from the clothes we wear to our skincare. One thing you don’t want in the hot summer is weighty skincare products that feel greasy on your skin, yet you still want to protect and nourish your skin every day.
Thankfully, Neutrogena Suncare Products offer breakthrough technologies for advance protection from the hot summer sun. The problem however is most people either don’t apply sunscreen, don’t apply the right amount, don’t reapply properly or they don’t use the correct SPF.
SPF (Sun Protection Factor) measures how well sunscreens protect skin from sunburn, which is caused primarily by UVB rays. SPF does not adequately measure how well a sunscreen protects from UVA rays. UVA rays persist year-round and can lead to signs of premature skin aging including fine lines, deep wrinkles and uneven skin tone. So it’s important to select a sunscreen that has broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) protection.
How do you do this? The best and most important thing is to make sunscreen an everyday routine, like brushing or using a daily moisturizer. Research has shown that daily sunscreen use can cut the incidence of melanoma in half.
There are other sun safety measures you can take, such as avoiding the sun during peak hours, seeking shade and wearing protective clothing while in the sun. For daily protection look for SPF 30 or higher. For recreational protection (like a day at the beach), look for broad-spectrum and water resistant sunscreens that are higher than SPF 50.
