As an African American woman born in Kingston, Jamaica and raised in New York, and resides in Bergen County; it is my responsibility to tell Jade’s story from the perspective of an open-minded student of life.
Culture shapes how we absorb and communicate information so it was important to incorporate learning from a cultural perspective in Jade’s experience. In Jade’s Journey, culturally responsive teaching happens through interactions with neighbors, new classmates, teachers, and primarily her parents.
