COVID-19 has single-handedly reshaped the world we know. No longer is a physical connection deemed safe and, in some cases, appropriate and societal norms, such as dating, which rely on physical connectedness has left many unsure of how to proceed.
Humanity’s thirst for love and fear of being alone, especially having experienced weeks of lock-down, has ensured that dating will not be an archaic practice of the not so distant past. It has instead, much like our work life, evolved to safeguard the parties involved. In an era where life trumps financial gains, the pursuit of love— though ongoing—takes a backseat to health.
COVID-19 has forced the dating world to slow down and assess the individuals we let into our lives. The freedom that gave rise to the acceptance of one-night stands has been rightfully replaced with restriction and scrutiny. Dating has become more selective, with greater attention being paid to prospective partners.

Pre-COVID-19 one would experience some measure of discomfort broaching the subject of exclusivity on the first date. Post-COVID-19 has made it not only acceptable but a requirement. When seeking to graduate your date from virtual meet-ups as the world slowly reopen to outdoor spaces, it is important to know the the person you are dating to gauge their COVID-19 risk factor. One should also pay attention to whether the local community spread of COVID-19 is high when deciding on whether to meet their date in person. The option to get tested simultaneously could also be discussed as an extra precautionary measure.
