We’ve always been fascinated, perhaps even a little obsessed, with the idea of flying. For decades, enterprising inventors and courageous daredevils have endangered their reputations and lives, all in the pursuit of becoming pioneers of flight. Bold thinking, creative designs and a fearless attitude toward failure, transformed an audacious dream into satellites, airplanes, helicopters and other airborne equipment. Today, aerial technology has revolutionized the tourism, retail and transportation sectors, and is ready to revamp a new frontier: Jamaica’s marketing industry.
Early aviators long struggled to get their inventions into the air, spending much of their time tinkering with new machines and coaxing them to leave the firm grasp of land. Takeoff became a thrilling yet nerve-raking experience, an anxious moment that set the stage for either a doomed or successful departure.
In 2013, an enterprising duo, Ravi Sittol and Gabriel Heron, were facing their own challenge: launching a business and working hard to get it off the ground. Almost two years ago, SkyCamJa entered the local marketing fray, becoming one of the only companies in the island to offer aerial videography and photography services. Unlike many young businesses, which initially struggled to draw clients early on, SkyCamJa found a niche with promoters who wanted to do video reviews of their events. With its unique offerings and innovative approach, the company has already attracted some big time projects from the likes of LIME, Sagicor, Jamaica Broilers and Island Routes.
“With traditional broadcast avenues, new technology and social media all jostling for attention, marketers are scrambling to adjust to changing consumer habits,” says Ravi Sittol, Director of Operations at SkyCamJa. “They’re now seeking novel ways to entertain audiences and are looking to the skies for inspiration,” he reveals.
