Gamal Doyle better known as “Skinny Fabulous” has cemented his name as one of the top soca artistes in the business. Hailing from the beautiful island of St. Vincent, he has managed to create sweet soca music and showcase Caribbean culture all over the world. With five Soca Monarch titles in St. Vincent under his belt plus a 2019 Road March title for Trinidad Carnival, he is now considered a true veteran in the game. It is safe to say that this forced transition to a virtual space has been a drastic change for him. With no more jam-packed touring

schedules during this time and concerts switching to virtual platforms; Buzzz Magazine got to speak with the entertainer as he detailed his own experience making this adjustment.

When it comes to his thoughts on how social media and the internet impacts the music industry, he shared that these outlets allow for artistes to have more control over the distribution and promotion of their work.

“One time you would have to go to that person then to another person to get your work out to the people but now it’s easier to have more control and connect directly to your fans ,so that’s a positive aspect,” he said. As with anything, there were challenges navigating this new way of life and he was a bit skeptical at first but eventually found his own way of fostering that strong connection to his fans that was lacking.

With the rise in popularity of social media he also shared that his preferred platform is Instagram. When describing what he missed most about live performances, he stressed that the number one thing was actually seeing the people and their reactions in real time.

“You know how they have the fire emoji in the virtual concerts? I miss seeing the actual fires and lightas in real life. I also miss human connection and seeing the joy on people’s faces,” he shared.
