Dancehall Don: Book Review

hat better way to kick off a new year that by reading? When it comes to quality reading material, one needs to look no further than author K. Sean Harris who has cornered the market on superior storytelling with his plethora of premium novels that are edgy, entertaining, downright explicit and certainly not for the faint of heart. If adult content offends you then you are shopping in the wrong section of the book store, but for heathens like me, we embrace tales that titillate and are a guaranteed page turner.
Harris is back with his latest work ‘Dancehall Don’ which surrounds how dancehall’s newest and ‘baddest’ sensation made money moves and secured himself the top spot in that cutthroat and crab-in-a barrel industry without compromising his artistry and took no disrespect from men old enough to be his father. All while not even being old enough to vote!
School boy Trystan became the deejay 6lock and right after graduating from one of the best high schools in Jamaica, blew up bigger than anyone expected though he himself never doubted the depth of his talent

Blessed with a killer flow, deadly song, amazing writing skills and the ability to discern when those around him were gold digging or genuine, he took the dancehall crown and placed it squarely on his own head. His haters were numerous, his detractors worked overtime but they could not railroad his raw talent, neither could they quench his thirst for revenge having witnessed unspeakable horrors committed against his family when he was a child.
‘Dancehall Don’ highlights the power of self-prophecy plus how important it is to surround oneself with people who can propel us forward in this game called life. His was a meteoric rise, yet it was not without its tragedy and betrayals. Friends become foes and even in the squad there are snakes whose heads had to be decapitated when the poison showed. Such is the goings on during any ascension to the throne.
Gritty, powerful and intense, Harris has again delivered another masterpiece that continues to balance great writing interspersed with some sex scenes that do not disappoint, if you happen to be into those kinds of things. ‘Dancehall Don’ should be another best seller with the only real question being when its sequel will be dropped, as the ending has to lead to the beginning of part two. Fingers crossed.
