Born with a passion for acting, Jamaican born Mitzie Pratt is living her dream as an accomplished film actress in the city of New York. This dynamic character, both on screen and off, is a burst of energy and charisma cocooned in the body of a simple, hardworking, free-spirited, fun loving daughter of the islands. A lover of nature, earth, music and dancing; Jamaica remains her piece of paradise in the world and a place she will forever call home.
From Stony Hill, Kingston to the stages and screens of New York, Pratt has made a name for herself as an accomplished actress and producer starring in a number of films including “Crave”, “Maneuver”, and the more recent “Love my Roomie”.
Her love affair with acting began as early as age 4, where it was first noticed she loved to entertain, perform and make people laugh. Like the many actors, her journey in honing her craft has been met with many challenges and difficulties; even more so, as a black actress trying to make it in the industry. It was her own manoeuvre of the landscape that brought her to work with independent film makers, a niche in which Pratt has shined in many respects. Her breakthrough performances within the independent film industry are accredited to her roles as Della Maze in “Maneuver”, and Mildred “MiMi” Clarke in “Love my Roomie” which has been doing increasingly well on the streaming platform Amazon Prime.
As an islander, her Jamaican roots have proven to be beneficial to her acting career as she has channelled the essence of her mother and aunt to cultivate the role of MiMi and has brought a semblance of Jamaican-ness to its delivery; a role with which she is able to identify with, as elements of her own playful yet stern personality emerge within the role. For Pratt, acting is her one true passion and she has found her place as an advocate for the independent film industry as it gives her the flexibility and freedom for her voice to be heard telling the stories that truly matter.
I want to get directors and writers to come to Jamaica and tell stories that infuse Jamaica in them
Mitzie Pratt
On her downtime from acting, she loves to cook, watch movies, travel and enjoy quiet solitude and nature. Among her favourite dishes is the ackee and saltfish. She also loves to listen to music and has in her playlist artistes such as Sanchez, Buju Banton, Damion Malrely, Suga Minott and Coco T. She considers herself an Ambassador for Jamaica overseas and loves sharing her culture with the people she works with on set. Whenever she gets the time, she loves to travel back to Jamaica and enjoy the tropical bliss that is our weather and to visit her family and friends that still live in Jamaica.
