They say some things are better the second time around. While that may not always be the case, it is true for the re-release of the song “Te Amo” by Mr Vegas. The original record which was initially released two years ago wasn’t quite getting the traction the veteran musician would have liked. After pulling and shelving the record at the time, Vegas revisited the projected a few years later.
After making several changes to the rhythm, Mr Vegas was introduced to the music and artistry of St. Mary native, Yaksta. Appreciating his style and flow, Vegas sent the record to the musician for him to add his flair and upon hearing the additions Mr Vegas was blown away by Yaksta’s contribution. The song was shortly thereafter re-released and a music video shot to accompany the record.
“Te Amo” which is a dance record, prominently features two dance moves in the song; the “congrats” dance and the “te amo” dance. The re-released record featuring Yaksta is a vibrant and addicting dance anthem. You hear the song and immediately feel compelled to get up and “buss a move”. The lyrical flow and styling of Yaksta adds a significant buzz to the record which is further cemented and complimented by Vegas’ unique sound.
The revamped video for the updated song gives a much more modern dancehall flare than the original release. Scores of dancers in the video dazzle with their effortless rhythm and synchronized moves. The dance routines while seeming easy to follow showcase the precision and technique of the dance. This is definitely one of those dances that is easy enough for professional dancers and dancing enthusiasts to learn and catchy enough to have been the dance routine sweeping any and every party, had the pandemic not locked us inside.
The video which was posted to Mr Vegas’ YouTube page on July 30, 2020 lists in its credits Mr Vegas, Yaksta and Topo La Maskara. The video already has over 90,000 views and an influx of comments praising and celebrating the song and recognizing the talents and entertainment value of the “Bush Lawd”, Yaksta. This is definitely another good move on Mr Vegas’ part and a great push for Yaksta’s career, popularity and fan base; especially for those unfamiliar with his work.
Check out the song and video and don’t forget to like, share and support our local Jamaican dancehall talents.
