Christmas is a season of togetherness and celebration; a season filled with the spirit of love. But all things being equal, the holidays also require us to be vigilant in our movements to ensure we are able to enjoy the spoils of the season. The Christmas period lends itself to a host of misfortunes if due diligence is not observed. From road
fatalities, robberies and cases of assaults, the joys of the season can easily disappear if safe practices are not made a priority throughout the season. Young people especially need to be mindful of their movements and practices, as the excitement of enjoying the slew of parties held in the season can cloud their better judgment and cause irreversible circumstances. To ensure you have a happy holiday, here are a few tips for a safe and joyous celebration.
Drive Safe
Motor vehicle fatalities have become very common within the holiday period, especially among young motorists. For many young motorists this period is often the best time to go on road trips with friends and family or travel across the island to attend the hottest parties of the season. Most, if not all fatalities that happen within this period are as a result of reckless driving habits, which can be avoided if the proper safety practices are maintained. Here are a few tips for traversing motorists to keep in mind this season:
•> ALWAYS observe and drive within the speed limits
(it’s better to make the party, than the news).
•> Where alcohol will be present, ALWAYS have a
responsible designated driver assigned.
•> Be aware of your surroundings and never pull over
in dark secluded areas, NO MATTER WHAT.
•> Be aware of obstacles placed in the road that force
you to pull over in lonely areas.
•> ALWAYS check the vehicle prior to an outing to
avoid any malfunctions on the road.
•> Be aware of other motorists and pedestrians on the
roads while driving.
•> Be cautious in offering assistance to persons
stranded on the roads.
•> Do your best to never offer strangers rides (it may
be a plot to rob or assault you).
•> NEVER drive and text but ALWAYS maintain a fully
charged phone for emergency purposes.
•> As best you can, NEVER travel alone, especially at
nights.
