With this shift in perspective, Dwayne McKenzie and his team at Epican Medicinal Limited sought to take advantage of this opportunity and introduce to Jamaica the company that many have come to know as Epican Jamaica.
Located at Shop #3 in Market Place at 67c Constant Spring Road, Epican Jamaica is seeking to redefine how the average person views Cannabis use by highlighting the diverse benefits that come with using Cannabis products. Among the sentiments he echoes for the sceptics, is the fact that “there is more to Cannabis use than just getting high”, continuing that there is a lifestyle approach that seeks to keep you in balance. According to McKenzie, “Cannabis can have you living your best life on a daily basis”
His knowledge of and experience with the Cannabis industry was amassed during his time in California in the United States where he worked and took the time to learn about the industry and the product itself. This was complimented by his travels to Africa and Belize where he had the opportunity to speak with various healers and further his extensive knowledge of the beneficial components of Cannabis use as a lifestyle practice.
His dream of introducing a Cannabis industry in Jamaica took him along a journey that was rife with challenges and setbacks. From a lack of precedence for the operations of a company of this nature in Jamaica, to the struggle to find investors willing to believe in the vision, to the obstacles presented by the banking industry in legitimizing his operations, Dwayne McKenzie was burdened by bureaucracy. His passion, belief and resilience however, did not wane. His creativity and determination fuelled his drive as he would eventually receive investment support from a Canadian basedcompany which helped to advance his dream.
