Marion Hall: Christianity Has Provided a Feeling of completeness

“Christianity has provided a feeling of completeness, I’m at peace

It is widely believed that nothing can derail the blessings that are meant for you in life. If you subscribe to this belief, and are familiar with the genesis of Marion Hall, then one would say

that her decision to leave the hype and depravity of dancehall for the calmness and spirituality of Christendom was something predestined and inevitable. Throughout most of her widely popular musical career, Marion Hall was known to the world as the unmatched Queen of Dancehall, Lady Saw. Her musical repertoire included strong sexual content and gave the dancehall fraternity

hits such as “Sycamore Tree”, “Chat to mi back”, “If him lef” and “Heels on”. However, from as far

back as she can remember, there always existed a strong spiritual pull that caused her much torment throughout her dancehall career.

Her journey to Christendom, which took the nation by surprise, was for her a constant emotional battle which started from her humble beginnings in Galina, Saint Mary. Marion recounted episodes throughout her teenage years that she believes were the commencement of a lifelong journey of her being called to Christendom. From a pastor calling out to her in a crowd, having never laid eyes

on her before; to being taken over by a spiritual presence; there has been a constant pull directing her to Christianity, which she would often reject as a result of her pride. Despite these spiritual experiences however, her alter ego at the time, Lady Saw, was born out of the need to rescue her family from the poverty stricken life and abusive environment that was their norm. “I do it for my family”, were her sentiments as she recounted the abusive relationship between her

parents and the countless times her mother would flee to Kingston in an attempt to escape the abuse of her father; abuse she and her siblings also experienced. She spoke of days her mother struggled to provide meals for them; remembering how she used to go to the shop to beg a quarter of bread, which the family would consume with water. These were but few of the experiences that

made Marion realize she had to do something to improve her family’s

situation. The turning point for her, however, came on December 14, 2015, the day of upcoming

Artist, J Capri’s funeral. Before the service as she was preparing to take a bath, she recounts a conversation she was having with God and during that conversation, a song came to her out of nowhere. “Mi God seh it nuh ova, Him nuh done wid me yet; Him seh it nuh ova, Him nuh done

bless me yet; Him seh nuh worry bout mi enemies, dem nuh have nutt’n pon me; Mi God seh it nuh ova, Him nuh done bless me yet”. For her the filling of the bath in that moment was a sign from God that she was to get baptized. During the service, she recalls three songs being performed

that brought her through her darkest period; two of which were performed by Cherine Anderson and Alaine. A spiritual conversation she exchanged with the Lord on that day saw her shortly after being

instructed to get baptized. A call she finally decided to answer. For her, Christianity has provided a

feeling of completeness, “I’m at peace”, she declares. She shares how joyful it is knowing that despite the challenges that may present themselves, the Lord is making a way; gleefully sharing that. “I’m

so in love with Jesus and He’s so in love with me”. She feels much calmer than ever before and invigorated with purpose to complete the work the Lord has planned for her. Her decision, however, caught many by surprise and confused even some of her closest friends. Though this is her personal journey, for which she requires no-one’s approval, she recalls that very few of her fellow entertainers called to congratulate her on this new milestone in her life. She recounts that other female artistes approached her decision to move to Christianity with much negativity, for which God told her to “Love them and forgive them.”

For her, the hate, jealousy and animosity which existed was too much. “I’m so happy that God saved me just in time.”

Continuing in that life, she believes she may have ended up in prison for killing someone or find herself being murdered, stating “I just felt like somebody is about to kill me”. She however credits her continuing existence to God and his mercy and grace. She had to depart from that lifestyle and hopes that others currently in that environment will also see the wisdom in doing so. “I want to encourage my sisters to walk away from that life”; continuing, “God gave us all a talent and we should use it to enhance each other, to lift other people up.” Her journey has not been short of its challenges and obstacles but she remains steadfast in the power of God and His ability to guide her through any and everything, sharing that she’s a “Warrior for Christ.” Among her greatest moments on this new journey, include being accepted into a Florida based Bible college despite not having a GED (high school diploma) with her powerful testimony; an opportunity the institute offers for persons over 40

years old. She also shared with glee her recent achievement of becoming an International Evangelist, having been ordained on July 15, 2018. In addition to these milestones she also hopes to become baptized again in the River Jordan. Another major goal currently in the works for Evangelist Hall comes compliment of her new gospel album entitle “His Grace”. The album which was released

earlier this year features 17 new tracks, for which Hall beams with pride when discussing. She shares that inspiration for new songs continue to occupy her mind, some of which she wished came to her earlier so they could have been included on the album. Notwithstanding, she is determined to take her ministry international as plans are under way to embark on a 3-year international tour; believing she has a responsibility to share her gospel in international market
