No longer considered taboo, it is becoming increasingly common for women to “do” their body; and is even viewed by some as a regular part of their beauty regimen. Made famous by glamorous celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, these local and international entertainment icons, public personalities, and your average ‘hot girl’ next door, make no secret of their newly ‘done’ bodies, as they show off their assets for the ‘gram.
What is a ‘Designer Body?
The ‘Designer Body’ as it is popularly called is the surgical or cosmetic enhancement of one’s physique to create the desired standard of beauty. This includes breast implants, stomach tightening, fat removal, and buttock enhancement. Today, a woman can walk into a body studio as a member of the ‘itty, bitty, titty committee’ and leave with breasts so big, they might as well be two midgets in a headlock!
Less invasive methods of body augmentation include human hair wig installations, nail, and lash extensions. However, many women often opt for “the whole package,” which includes minor enhancements coupled with the surgical procedures, for a ‘complete’ look. In Jamaica’s dancehall scene, the names Shensea, Miss Kitty, and Spice, spring to mind, when you think of the ‘designer bodies’ that are held up as a symbol of status, glamour and sex appeal.
So with body augmentation becoming more accepted, does the Jamaican male see women with Designer Bodies as more desirable than a woman with her natural assets?
What the men had to say
Slim, 50: “They are exciting to look at, but nothing I want to personally enjoy or touch. I worry that I may damage something in the heat of the moment. When I know that a woman’s body is not real it is always in the back of my mind. I appreciate a natural woman. Wigs and eyelashes are fine, just not excessive.”
Rocky, 63: “Of course I like to look at them! If I were younger and was rich, I would date a girl like that…because the designer body cost money.”
