You might have seen her on Magnum Kings & Queens of Dancehall, heard her on the radio and you know her for her curvy yet provocative fashion style that oozes sex appeal and has made the mantra “Curvy Diva”, become a household name across the island.

If you are still wondering, who Buzzz Magazine is talking about….meet Yanique Barrett! A confident, buoyant, vivacious and dynamic media personality, who flies the flag for business women and single mothers.

You may be a little surprised to learn that Barrett is a reserved homebody, who loves to cook and watch movies, but more importantly, who is enthusiastic and motivated to traverse the journey of motherhood.

A business woman at the helm of a growing brand, she has found a way to balance a demanding career and parenthood at just 30 years of age. This was very obvious when we got a chance to talk about life, work and being a single mother in the Jamaican spotlight.

The self-titled “Curvy Diva”, has always exuded a natural love for entertaining those around her and making people laugh. “When I was younger I loved to entertain and be the centre of attention. But my centre of attention was not for me but for them. I wanted to make people happy. Happy people are fun.”

Motivated by making people happy, it was no surprise when Barrett pursued a career in entertainment, in spite of enormous challenges. Under the brand “the Curvy Diva”, the trailblazing mother has amassed a successful media and entertainment portfolio, which keeps her schedule quite busy.

Barrett’s popularity has grown from strength to strength capturing the nation’s heart with her role as the ever sexy, ever encouraging host of Magnum Kings & Queens of Dancehall.

A radio personality since 2011 with the FAME95 FM, the young ‘mover and shaker’ is also the host of E-blaze, a daily entertainment news programme. Adding to her credentials, Barrett’s other roles include television show Riddim Chat on Feva TV, which aired in Canada and South Africa. However, her most recent accolade is being
selected as an ambassador for this year’s Pulse’s
Caribbean Fashion Week.

Advocating time management and understanding her 10 year-old daughter, Jada-Marie, as the key, to unlock her ability of striking a balance of organising a hectic work schedule and motherhood, Barrett, told Buzzz Magazine:

“I write down everything. I have not yet mastered it, but I am learning, with proper time management things can happen.”

Honouring and saluting her mother as her greatest inspiration and role model, Barrett reveals to Buzzz Magazine that her mother’s guiding wisdom keeps her grounded and teaches her how to teach her daughter humility, in spite having ‘mummy on TV’.
