Saving The Environment:One Household at a Time

Saving The Environment:One Household at a Time

The foreign news might fool you into thinking that only governments can save the environment. They do have a huge role but there’s also lots each individual can do. If everyone pitches in, the combined effort could make a big difference. So here’s a brief guide to how you can play your part in preserving the earth.

Plant A Tree

Saving The Environment:One Household at a TimeIn the name of development, we chop down trees and forests to make space for shopping malls and housing schemes. That throws off nature’s balance. The only way to redress that balance is to plant trees to replace the ones we’ve lost to ‘development’.
The balance is atmospheric as trees’ leaves consume carbon dioxide and produce oxygen which is a crucial 21 per cent of the air we breathe.
There’s also the substantial matter of keeping cool. If you suffered from record high temperatures this summer in Jamaica, you will enjoy the shade your tree grows to provide. That’s a big plus.

Stop Using Plastic Bags

Saving The Environment:One Household at a TimeThese convenient bags withstand moisture and are perfect for packaging most hand-sized items you buy at corner shops, supermarkets and pharmacies. The flip side is their durability. The blooming things stick around so long that they end up clogging drains and wreaking environmental havoc. Save the world one plastic bag at a time by using paper bags instead. Unlike plastic, paper is biodegradable.

Sharp eyes will note that some plastic garbage bags are biodegradable. So the next time you shop, be sure to buy those.
