Rre: Sometimes Change is not a Bad Thing

Rre

The setting was informal and friendly, fitting for Renee Reid’s radiant and down to earth personality. The recording artiste, formerly known as RR (referred to as double R), sat down with La-Toya Samuels to fill us in on what she has been up to since our last interview in 2014.

Of course, the burning issue at hand was the name change. The decision was made to change her stage name from RR to Rre (pronounced Ree). When asked why, Rre revealed that an international record label has expressed interest in her and a name change was inevitable. “The new name is more easily searched on Google. In addition, Red Rat changed his stage name to RR, so it became necessary to distinguish my own identity,” she stated.

She welcomes the change, however.

After releasing her singles, Gimmie Dat and Crazy in Love, Rre collaborated with Sizzla to create the track Dat You Wah. This was followed by the addition of Mavado to her previously successful Crazy in Love track. The project became a hit and enjoys success up until today.

As first lady of the John John Music Group, alongside Devin Di Dakta, with whom she recently collaborated for Rev Out the RR, Rre prides herself on writing her own material, with some input from Chevaughn Clayton.

Even with a 9 to 5 executive job at a major telecommunications company in Jamaica, the beautiful and talented artiste is passionate about her music. “I love expressing myself in music. I enjoy connecting with my listeners,” affirmed Rre with a smile. It is no wonder she is keeps herself busy with projects to please her fans. With the support of her manager, Shelly-Ann Curran, Rre is working feverishly on promoting her new brand.

Rre also mentioned her upcoming releases, inclusive of the dancehall track Every Head Turn, produced by Sham from Real Records, UK, and One Girl Army from Jus easy Productions. She described her upcoming works as “Sexy, liberating and female empowerment music”. But her dreams don’t stop there. Rre confessed she entertains the idea of someday being able to work with artistes like Drake, Rihanna, and ultimately Beyoncé, who she said were part of her bucket list.
