Medically, taking a break from work has been proven to be beneficial to the mental health and physical wellness of the taker. These breaks help to reduce stress and the risk of physical illness in individuals. Outside of that, these breaks can improve the individual’s outlook on life because it is anticipated, mostly an exciting time that involves seeing family, visiting beautiful places or simply relaxing at home with loved ones.

Breaks are also crucial to an individual’s creativity, productivity and output. Research has found that micro, lunch and social breaks can boost performance. A study by Authors and Psychologists, Korpela, Kinnunen, Geurts, de Bloom and Sianoja in 2016 found that taking lunchtime breaks and detaching from work, increases levels of energy at work and decreases exhaustion. Furthermore, one year later it was found to increase vigour and energy levels over time.
