“Be careful of the seeds you allow to be planted in you.”
Those words have saved the lives of many women who have considered or already entered into relationships with the wrong men. The inverse is also true. Sadly, many wind up in jail for doing things they previously would not have imagined: some have been forced to change who they are to please their partner; others have been left in debt after being tricked out of their money and assets; while still others wind up dead- all due to the wrong choice in a mate. Your choice of a mate can either make or break you; make you better or deteriorate your self-image. No matter the ‘urge to merge’, we all need to be cautious when selecting a mate.

Women especially are too often accused of being picky but is something really wrong with searching carefully for specific qualities? Should a woman simply settle or lower her standards and risk negatively altering her life forever?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with thinking long term and being sensible and strategic. Especially when it comes on to the addition of children, no one wants to become an unnecessary statistic as a single parent. It is necessary to safeguard ourselves and the well-being of any child we may bring into this world.

There are many horror stories circulating of persons, men and women alike, whose lives have trended downwards after attaching themselves to their mate:

“Man loses job after common law wife creates a scene at his workplace”

“Young lady kills her toddler and blames it on stress from drug obsessed boyfriend”

“Man fired after being framed by jealous girlfriend”

“Woman caught smuggling drugs in airport. Refuses to expose ‘drug kingpin’ boyfriend”

“Banker found guilty of fraud to finance greedy wife’s lifestyle”

Those are possible news headlines based on the real life experiences out there. But what are the things to look out for to determine whether the relationship is headed down the right road or on a nightmare ride to hell?

He may not hit on women in your presence but loves to hit- full stop. The truth is, if a mate suggests they “love you to death”, that may be exactly where things end up.
