The Haven at Hillcrest

The Haven at Hillcrest

Its feel of ‘oneness with nature’ was what captivated me on my first visit. It was like lounging in a garden with tables The Haven at Hillcrestand chairs perfectly nestled amidst the lush green vegetation of trees, grass and wooden steps. It was as if Shakespeare was the designer and his theme was ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. I instantly felt at home at the Haven Bar and Grill.
So imagine my glee when I got to sit down with its’ owner, 33-year-old entrepreneur Karen Darby. I watched as she lit up while explaining how its inception happened by ‘buck ups’ when she accompanied a friend to view places for a project they were working on. It didn’t fit their needs, but immediately she knew she wanted to do something with the space, though she did not know what. She just knew she wanted to start a business. Not a surprise as her father too was a successful businessman.
Inspired by the look and feel of the space, the name ‘The Haven’ was chosen and as it was on Hillcrest Ave, it became ‘The Haven @ Hillcrest’. What started as a bar with a pan chicken man on Fridays, has now grown to be this Rustic Chic bar and grill; an extension of Karen hosting friends in her backyard ‘kind of vibe’ hangout spot. It truly feels like you are a really cool friend Karen has invited into her backyard.
