A white man sleeping under a bus shed in Jamaica? Ludicrous right? Such were the thoughts of theater goers as the opening scene of ‘Samson & Di Liar’ unfolded at the Little Little Theatre. Whoever could have fathomed such a thing? But there was Tony ‘Paleface’ Hendricks under a sheet of newspaper at a bus stop surrounded by the usual untidy trappings and accoutrement of a homeless man contently snoring away. Right away you knew you were in for a treat.

Scarlet Beharie Productions went to town with this out-of-the-box comedy with two actors who are equally strong in their craft and each is the perfect foil for the other’s performance in this play.

The story line surrounds Samson (Tony Hendricks), a proud but homeless Jamaican white man who has fallen on hard times but, still refuses to beg and loathes the company of others. He is a learned man who abhors fools and being a large enough sort, he can ward off thieves and wrongdoers easily. His world however, would soon collide with Godfrey McIntosh aka ‘Mawga Man’ (Ricky Rowe), a craft character who is quick on his feet and even quicker to concoct stunts to con money from others.
