Whether you are big busted or a member of the ‘itty bitty committee’, there has been occasion when you needed a bra to go about your daily lives. Some women do not mind them, while others have a love –hate relationship with them that goes all the way back to their ‘training bra’ pubescent days. Regardless of your past, brighter days can be in your future thanks to the team at Golden Closet, led by proprietor Sophia Daley who is on a mission to make women look and feel their best no matter their size, shape or style preference. There is a bra for every occasion, need and look and with Golden Closet, your every bra wish is their command.

Interestingly, they opened for business on Valentine’s Day 2012 and now almost a decade later they have earned a reputation as the foremost experts and providers of not only brassieres but undergarments, shapewear, sleepwear and adult novelties. Formerly located at Central Plaza, Golden Closet now enjoys increased visibility at the Village Mall, where they can spread the word to more women that the ‘bra brigade’ is ready and available at their convenience. BUZZZ magazne caught up with Mrs. Daley to get the details on everything bra related to educate our women folk about what is available to make them stand up ‘firmly’ supported, stylish and sexy.

So what is the number one thing women get wrong about their brassiere? “Everything! People form their own opinion, so they come in and everybody thinks they are a ‘D’ cup’ because ‘D’ cups are what most primary manufacturers sell. In our business what we have discovered is that the most common bra cup size here is ‘G’ or ‘double G’. Women will come in and say they do not have any bra with bones because they do not like them; usually it’s because they have had a bad experience. There’s also something known as ‘sister sizing’ meaning that the band and cup size are independent of each other so if you are 36D and you gain a little weight, you do not automatically become 38D. Hence, if you go up in band size, you go down in the cup.”

As Daley explains, nothing is wrong if a bra has a bone, but in order to be comfortable with it, it has to fit properly and that partially comes from having a professional fit you and learning your band size. “Your band size’ is the circumference around your torso. There are a few basic things to note when fitting your bra and these are firstly that your band must be smug, not tight, so that it supports 90% of your breast weight.

Secondly all of your breast tissue should be in the cup of your bra. The bra with bone should not rest on the soft tissue of your breast. Also the core or centre of your bra should rest against your chest with no space under or above and finally, when getting your bra fitted for the first time you do it on the loosest hook. It should be snug right there. If you have been wearing a bra and the bone has been sticking you, the truth is, it was the wrong size. So it is just a matter of finding your correct fit. The good thing about investing in bras with bone is that they give you a better fit because of the added structure.”
