The medical worker credited the use of turmeric, garlic and ginger, which are quite popular in Jamaican culture to be used alone or in a combination of two or all three, whether consumed raw or as a hot beverage.
There is a Chinese proverb that states, “It is easy to get a thousand prescriptions, but hard to get one single remedy.” Interpreted simply, it means there is a growing list of medicines that exist, those that are created daily in a lab and some that are yet to be discovered. Each day another medicine is made but oftentimes has to be used with another to produce results.
With the novel coronavirus, which is part of a large family of viruses known to cause respiratory infections, wreaking havoc worldwide and driving patients to hospitals in droves, there are still many that cannot afford to seek medical attention locally and depend on home-made concoctions to relieve the symptoms such as fever, dry cough and congestion.
Here are five of the most common homemade Jamaican remedies used in conjunction to help make anyone experiencing the symptoms feel better. Although the World Health Organization states on its website, “While some western, traditional or home remedies may provide comfort and alleviate symptoms of COVID-19, there is no evidence that current medicine can prevent or cure the disease.
