Lessons My Mother Taught Me

mother Lessons My Mother Taught Me

By: Nicola Cunningham

For many of us our mothers are our first teachers. I know that I learned to read and write not at school but at home because my mother was hands-on and determined not to raise any dunce pickney.

Formal education, however, was not the only thing that we were taught as our mothers also instilled in us our values, attitudes and our moral compass. Sometimes while we sat at the dinner table or as they plaited our hair, they would impart little pearls of wisdom that would be guiding principles for every aspect of our lives going forward.

There are countless gems taught to us that have served us well. I sought to highlight a few that are not only popular but also timeless in nature. Some may be funny but all of them are profoundly real and relevant in protecting and guarding not just our hearts, but our finances, lives and livelihood.

Next time you see your mother, thank her for moulding you into the queen that you have become.
