In their tiresome quest to find ‘the one’, people are replacing the concept of relationship with microship: “an emotional but more often sexual relationship between two people, lasting between one to 48 hours, or a few weeks.” This search for instant gratification has created a new role in the dating world: the dreaded ‘side chick’.

We are all familiar with the poem, “roses are red, violets are blue”, which denotes great love, well here is one you may not have heard, which explains the definition perfectly. “Roses are red, violets are blue, if he is always busy, then the side chick is you!”
According to www.urbandictionary.com, The side chick is:
1) “The other woman; also known as the mistress; a female that is neither a male’s wife or girlfriend who has relations with the male while he is in another relationship”
2) “The girl a guy cheats with because she’s better in bed”.
3) “The female who is romantically involved with a man that knows he has a girlfriend or wife; Aka “BECKY With the good hair,”
4) “Girls you have sex with on and off whilst you’re looking for the one you want to go out
with.”
As ludicrous as it reads, there are a growing number of women who are opting for this role. Equally for some men, “having a woman without a side chick is like having a meal without a drink”, and they find plenty of women who go along with this dynamic. Female Transitional Life-Coach Karen Allen states: “I think there are possibly two extremes to this mind-set. Low self-esteem and control. Low self-esteem is a factor as many women may feel ‘this is all they deserve’. Control comes in for women who are happy being the side chick as it gives them the opportunity to have what they want, when they want it.”
Signs you are a Side Chick:
He never spends the night.
He’s M.I.A. for major holidays.
He’s “not into labels” on relationships.
He always has his phone with him.
He won’t hold your hand in public.
There’s no social media evidence of the two of you together
